Research

We are interested in studying neurodegeneration and neurotransmission using tools of neurosciences and pharmacology.
Our laboratory is dedicated to elucidating the cellular and molecular mechanisms of neurodegenerative diseases as well as investigating novel treatment approaches for such conditions. For these purposes, we utilize established rodent models of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases. Moreover, we investigate the efficacy of novel approaches in various disorders of newborns by utilizing neonatal rat models of hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy and hyperoxia.
Neurotransmission is another major area of research in our laboratory. We have a long-standing interest in cholinergic neurotransmission in several aspects including central cholinergic regulation of cardiovascular and neuroendocrine systems as well as cholinergic anti-inflammatory pathway. Recently, we have focused on pyrimidinergic system and discovered the existence of pyrimidinergic neurotransmission in the rat brain.
